The University of British Columbia in Canada is inviting applications for the 2025 UBC International Scholars Program.
This UBC International Scholarship Program covers the tuition fees and includes a living allowance for selected international candidates.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants for the UBC International Scholarship Program must:
- You need to be an international student studying in Canada on a Canadian Study Permit.
- You must either come directly to UBC from a high school recognized by UBC, or be transferring to UBC from the first year of college or another university.
- You must have graduated from high school no more than one gap year prior to the academic year you are applying to. Applicants for 2025 Winter session, for instance, must have graduated from high school no earlier than November 2023.
- You must be applying for your first undergraduate degree.
- You must maintain superior academic achievement by earning all As or equivalent standard.
- You must demonstrate a high-level financial need that, without assistance, would otherwise prevent you from pursuing a UBC degree. Note: International students are automatically considered for the merit-based International Major Entrance Scholarships and Outstanding International Student Awards when they apply to UBC. If those awards do not cover their necessary costs of tuition and basic living expenses, they are then eligible to apply to the International Scholars Program.
- You must meet UBC’s admission requirements, including both general and degree-specific requirements, as well as the English Language Admission Standard.
Details of the Scholars Program:
Every year, the University of British Columbia awards full scholarships to international students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree course in the institution in Canada.
There are four prestigious levels of need-and-merit-based awards under UBC’s International Scholars Program:
- Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award
This scholarship rewards outstanding prospective international undergraduate students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and leadership qualities that support and enable others through collaboration, empathy, and active listening. - Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award
It is a highly competitive award and recognizes exceptional academic achievement among undergraduate international students from underprivileged or conflict countries who cannot otherwise afford to attend university without considerable financial assistance. - International Impact Award
The award is given to exemplary students who have demonstrated leadership and dedication to finding solutions for sustainability, climate change, natural resource management and conservation, social justice/equity/inclusion, or societal health/wellness. - Vantage One Excellence Award
This award is available to academically outstanding international students who have not yet met the English Language Admission Standard for direct admission to UBC and join the UBC Vantage College.
Benefits
The UBC International Scholars Program covers tuition costs, fees, and living costs, less the financial contribution the student and their family can reasonably make each year toward these costs.
Duration of Scholarship:
The scholarships are renewable for a further three years of undergraduate study, or to degree completion, whichever is less, subject to the student obtaining satisfactory academic standing in their faculty, continuing to demonstrate financial need, and maintaining their Canadian study permit (visa).
