Jose Ervin: Maple Heights man was killed early Friday in Garfield Heights

A 32-year-old man, Jose Ervin, tragically lost his life in a shooting near a Dunkin’ Donuts in Garfield Heights early Friday morning.

According to the Garfield Heights Police Department, both police and fire crews responded to reports of a shooting around 2:45 a.m. near Tourney and McCracken Roads.

When officers arrived, they found Ervin lying unresponsive on the ground outside a nearby business with a gunshot wound.

Ervin was rushed to Marymount Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

In August 2023, Ervin and his fiancée, Scierra Blair, gained attention online when their twins were born. The couple, who share a birthday on August 18, celebrated their special day last year by welcoming their son, Jose Ervin III, and daughter, A-ri.

The two had started dating just a few days before their shared birthday in 2022 and quickly formed a close bond.

Jose told the outlet: ‘I thought she was telling a tale, because she asked me about my birthday and then said that’s pretty ironic, because that’s my birthday.

‘I’m like, get out of here. But she showed me her ID and proved me wrong.’

The pair did not imagine that they would be spending their next birthday together on the maternity ward.

Scierra revealed that twins run in both their families and so, although she wasn’t surprised, added that she was pleased to have welcomed both a boy and a girl.

The original due date was August 28 but, following a regular doctor’s appointment on August 17, Scierra was told their son was in a breech position and it would be best to have a cesarean.

The couple went to the hospital to prepare for surgery where Jose asked Scierra if she could hold on just a little longer so the new family could all share the same birthday.
