Man killed, woman hurt in crash with stolen SUV driven by teen fleeing Green Twp officers, police say

A 28-year-old man is dead and a 69-year-old woman is hospitalized after their vehicles were hit in Mt. Airy by a wrong-way, stolen SUV driven by a 15-year-old boy fleeing police in neighboring Green Township, authorities say.

It all started on North Bend Road in Green Township at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from township police.

Green Township police tried to stop a 2023 Honda CR-V reported stolen out of the city of Cincinnati.

“The driver of the Honda CR-V purposely swerved to the left, striking a marked Green Township Police cruiser,” Green Township police wrote in their release.

“The Honda CR-V then fled east on North Bend Road. Green Township Officers engaged in a short pursuit before losing visual of the vehicle in the 2300 block of North Bend Rd. The officers discovered in the 2200 block of North Bend Rd. that the stolen Honda CR-V had crashed into 2 other vehicles. The driver of the Honda CR-V then fled on foot from the scene.”

In a news release of their own, Cincinnati police say the crash that killed the 28-year-old man and injured the 69-year-old woman was reported at 2323 West North Bend Road at 7:40 a.m.

“Excessive speed is being investigated as a contributing factor of the crash,” Cincinnati police wrote.

The teen was driving the Honda SUV east on West North Bend Road when it crossed the center line and struck two oncoming, westbound vehicles: a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox SUV and a 2018 BMW 540i sedan, according to Cincinnati police.

The driver of the BMW suffered serious injuries.

He was transported in an ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he died later Tuesday, police announced Tuesday night.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office identified on Wednesday morning as Yousha Humphrey of Evanston.

The other driver who was hurt, a 69-year-old woman behind the wheel of the Chevrolet SUV, was transported to Mercy Health West Hospital in Green Township with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

She was wearing her seatbelt.

It remains unclear if the teen was wearing his seatbelt, Cincinnati police say, because he bailed from the Honda SUV and ran off.

Police found him later and took him into custody.
