Bryce Gerlach: 18-year-old killed in Harvest Homecoming shooting

The New Albany Police Department held a press conference Sunday morning regarding the deadly shooting that happened near Harvest Homecoming Saturday night.

NAPD Chief of Police Todd Bailey said that 18-year-old Bryce Gerlach of Corydon was the person shot and killed during the incident.

He said that two other people were shot as well, a 22-year-old man and 42-year-old woman. They are at a hospital being treated for their wounds. Their names are not being released at this time.

Bailey said they believe all three people shot were unrelated to the dispute that led to the shooting.

Bailey said that initially, police believed the gunshots only came from the area in the rear of the Scribner House located at State and Main Streets.

Later, though, they determined that there were multiple shooters firing from different locations, including a person possibly firing from within the festival’s carnival area.

NAPD believes at least two groups of people were involved in the dispute and fired shots.

Bailey said they have identified some persons of interest in the case, but since it is an ongoing fluid investigation, they cannot give details on them at this time.

Bailey said, however, that all persons of interest they are trying to identify as shooting suspects are Black males in their teens and early 20s.

He said they remain at large and should be considered dangerous given the recklessness of their actions.

He said they will release suspect names as soon as they have identified who they believe to be the shooters.

Earlier Sunday, festival organizers announced that the rest of the Harvest Homecoming would be canceled.
