A deadly shooting that occurred late last night in Danville has been confirmed as a targeted incident, according to local authorities.
Danville Police Chief Chris Wiles said that the suspect and victim were known to each other.
29-year-old Tyree Rafael Brandon has been charged with the second-degree murder of 33-year-old Azra Keene.
Police said that the two had been together shortly before the shooting took place.
Officers responded to a call for a wellness check on Fagan Street just before 10 p.m. last night.
Upon arrival, they found Keene lying in a driveway with gunshot wounds. He was later transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“They did know each other, at least they’d been together that night leading up to it, so it wasn’t something that was random. He wasn’t just walking down the street; they had contact with each other just prior to the incident,” Chief Wiles said.
Brandon faces several charges, including second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm in public to cause injury.
The Danville Police Department is currently withholding Brandon’s mug shot for investigative purposes, but he is in custody.
