Victims and suspect identified in Bath double homicide

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and Bath Police Department have identified the victims and suspect in a double homicide that prompted a shelter-in-place order for a residential neighborhood in Bath on Sunday morning.

Police found 58-year-old Lisa Bailey and her daughter, 32-year-old Jennifer Bailey, injured from gunshot wounds when they arrived at the house on Crawford Drive shortly after 7:00 a.m. Sunday.

Medics attempted to save them, but they were pronounced dead on scene.

Authorities have identified Lisa’s husband, Michael Bailey, as the shooter.

While they searched for Michael, authorities had informed the public that residents who lived north of North Street to shelter in place while law enforcement officers investigated what they referred to as an “ongoing situation” on Crawford Drive.

Police eventually located Michael inside the home, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shelter-in-place order was lifted around two hours after it was initially called for.

“Today was obviously a surprise and a shock to a lot of people,” said Bath police Chief Andrew Booth. “A lot of people are having a hard time kind of grasping what happened. We’ve been in touch with all the neighbors here, and the community in general, to reassure them that everything is safe at this point.”

Local and state police said there is currently no danger to the public.
