Charles Resh: 24-year-old flagger hit, killed by car while working in construction zone

A Maine man is dead after he was struck by a pickup truck while working at a construction zone on the Acadia Highway, according to authorities.

Charles Resh, 24, of Searsport, was identified as the victim of Tuesday’s crash by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the crash happened shortly before 7 a.m. in Orland, where the eastbound lane of the Acadia Highway was closed for paving. The Orland Fire Department said the construction zone was near the Ellsworth line.

Resh was directing eastbound traffic to travel in the westbound lane when authorities said he was struck by a black 2009 Chevrolet Silverado in the eastbound lane.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said Resh was transported by ambulance to Northern Light Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, where he died of his injuries.

Officials said the driver of the pickup truck, a 70-year-old Bucksport man, was not injured as a result of the crash.

The Orland Fire Department said traffic was diverted at the intersection of the Acadia Highway and Surry Road in order to provide a safe zone for first responders.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the sheriff’s office said no further details are being shared at this time.

The sheriff’s office said a Maine State Police trooper is assisting with the crash investigation.
