Dean Padgett: Otsego County murder victim identified, investigation ongoing

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Department has identified the murder victim discovered in Hayes Township last week.

Deputies and troopers from the Michigan State Police were summoned to a residence in Hayes Township on Sept. 25 where they found the body of 31-year-old Dean Nickolas Padgett, an Otsego County resident.

Officials still have not revealed how Padgett was killed or other information related to the case.

Padgett was born in Petoskey on Feb. 1, 1993.

“He loved anything to do with motorcycles, rooting for U of M, the Detroit Lions or watching football. He enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, bowling, concerts and had a need for speed. He owned and operated a painting business, something he was very proud of. His greatest pride and joy was his daughter,” according to his obituary from the Gaylord Community Funeral Home.

No suspects have been identified and the investigation is continuing.
