An investigation is underway after a two-vehicle crash left one person dead Monday morning in Boone County.
Deputies with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched shortly after 10:30 a.m. to the area of 8800 West 300 South after receiving multiple reports indicating that a serious crash had occurred.
BCSO said deputies arrived on the scene and found a pickup truck and a Utility Terrain Vehicle on the road.
Preliminary information indicates that both vehicles were heading west on County Road 300 South when the UTV attempted to turn into a local farm as the pickup truck was trying to pass it from behind, BCSO said.
It was at this moment that the pickup truck reportedly crashed into the UTV.
The driver of the UTV, identified as 61-year-old Stacey Sutphin of Jamestown, was transported to an area hospital where she later died.
BCSO confirmed the driver of the pickup truck was not injured and stayed on the scene of the crash where they cooperated with investigators.
The Boone County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team also assisted at the scene.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
