A Natchez teen did not survive when a tree fell on top of a home on Westwood Road amid Saturday evening storms.
The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Tykeria Rodgers, Natchez Police Chief Cal Green said. Two other people inside the house did make it out safely, she added.
Natchez police and firefighters arrived on the scene to clear away branches and rescue trapped individuals around 6 p.m.
Unfortunately, Rodgers did not make it out.
Gov. Tate Reeves confirms incident
As severe weather crosses Mississippi, Gov. Tate Reeves provided an update on Saturday night that included one death and four injuries.
“Sadly, MEMA received a report of a fatality in Adams County. Two injuries were reported in both Adams and Franklin County,” Reeves wrote in a social media post at 9:01 p.m. “Approximately 93,000 are without power statewide.”

Reeves reminded people to report any damage to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and to stay weather-aware as intensified conditions continue in parts of the state.
