About University Of Alberta Nursing After Degree
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) After Degree Program, which is available in Edmonton, is for students who are entering nursing with a recognized university degree in any area of study. The nursing faculty is aware that graduates have honed their analytical and critical thinking abilities. These people are good candidates for this program because they have the necessary skills, as well as relevant work and life experience and, frequently, further schooling.
The Faculty of Nursing will stop offering winter admission to the After Degree Program as of 2015–2016. Interested parties must submit an application for fall admission.
Additionally, candidates who satisfy all entry requirements, with the exception of the necessary course in medical microbiology, are no longer eligible for provisional admission to the BScN-After Degree Program by the Faculty of Nursing. To be considered for the program, applicants must fulfill all prerequisite admission requirements.
Admissions
There is one round of admissions (Fall) for the BScN-After Degree Program in Edmonton.
Edmonton
Students admitted to the BScN-After Degree Program in Edmonton will attend classes at the UofA North (Main) Campus. The Faculty of Nursing offices and lab are located in the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy, however, classes can occur in various buildings around campus. Edmonton site students are generally assigned to clinical placements in the city of Edmonton and the greater Edmonton area, but if needed could be placed as far away as 150 kilometres. Students are responsible for their transportation to practice placements and for the costs of travel and accommodations where applicable.
The Edmonton Clinic Health Academy, a new 150,000 square meter structure built expressly to give students a location for dynamic, high-tech cooperation and teamwork, will house the courses and labs for the Edmonton program. The Edmonton Clinic Health Academy, which houses all of the University of Alberta’s health science departments, was created expressly to impart team-based and patient-centered care.
Course Sequence
- The number in brackets beside the course name indicates the units of course weight (“credits”) for that particular course.
- Course names that end in “Practice” are clinical placements/experiences done in off-campus healthcare facilities.

- The two-year duration of the BScN-After Degree Program is due to the integrated structure of the coursework. A request for a program extension must be made to the Student Advisor. Students have up to three years to finish the program’s prerequisites with clearance. As a result, full-time study is required in order to complete this degree; part-time study is not an option.
