The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta is one of the largest nursing faculties in the country and the only Canadian member of the National Hartford Centers for Gerontological Nursing Excellence. More faculty members hold PhDs than at any other institution in the West. As pioneers in the field of nursing education in Canada, they founded the first Master of Nursing program in Western Canada in 1975 and the first fully funded Nursing PhD program in Canada in 1991.
