University Of Alberta Campuses

North Campus Edmonton

The North Campus of the University of Alberta is located on Treaty 6 territory that stretches from 116 Street in the west to 110 Street in the east and from the North Saskatchewan River to University Avenue. During the fur trade, this territory was known as “River Lot Five.” The communities of Windsor Park, Belgravia, McKernan, and Garneau are all located around the university.

Athabasca Hall, the first structure constructed on this plot of land, was constructed in 1911 and housed administrative offices, classrooms, labs, the library, and both staff and student housing. The Arts Building was formally inaugurated in 1915 after Assiniboia Hall, Pembina Hall, and Assiniboia Hall were all finished in 1913. Since then, university buildings have been constructed as needed to meet academic demands and economical constraints. Today, the North Campus is a thriving neighborhood with around 35,000 students and 7,500 teachers and staff members. The center of the university’s academic and research endeavors, as well as its administrative operations, is the North Campus.

Campus Saint-Jean

Campus Saint-Jean was established in 1908, and in 1963 it joined forces with the University of Alberta. Its location in the Bonnie Doon neighborhood was purchased in the middle of the 1970s. Campus Saint-Jean, a school that teaches French, has made a name for itself as a vital hub for research in the humanities, social sciences, humanities, education, and language teaching. The campus’s multidisciplinary research, which encourages alliances and collaborations between disciplines, sets it apart from other universities with its 40 researchers. Over 80 research projects in 14 fields of competence are located on the site.

Augustana Campus

On July 1, 2004, the University of Alberta and Augustana University College in Camrose, previously the Camrose Lutheran College, combined, bringing together two of Alberta’s oldest educational institutions. Even while the campus structures and liberal arts and sciences curriculum still reflect the college’s past, the advantages of this historic union have given Augustana, the university, the Camrose region, and the entire province new life.

An alliance of Norwegian Lutheran churches established Camrose Lutheran College in 1910 to provide residential high-school education. After the Second World War, the school started providing first- and second-year university transfer courses, and in 1985 it became Alberta’s first privately run degree-granting institution. By the time of the merger, Augustana was educating 1,000 students every year from all around Canada and about 28 other nations.

South Campus

The Board of Governors decided to buy 379 acres of land in the 1920s, about a mile and a half south of the Main Campus (now known as the North Campus). From 60 Avenue north to Fox Drive and from 122 Street east to around 115 Street, this area—now referred to as South Campus—can be found. The West 240, which was bought in the 1930s and is situated between 62 Avenue and 52 Avenue and east of 122 Street to the Whitemud Creek Ravine’s edge, is also part of the South Campus.

Along with Agri-Food Discovery Place, South Campus is home to some of the top agricultural research and teaching facilities in North America for animal metabolism, crops, dairy, poultry, and swine. The Medical Isotope and Cyclotron Facility, as well as Foote Field and the Saville Community Sports Centre, two top-notch athletic facilities, are all located on South Campus.

Enterprise Square

In the center of Edmonton’s downtown, between 102 Street and 103 Street, is where you’ll find Enterprise Square, which is situated on Jasper Avenue. It was formerly the Hudson’s Bay building, and it’s only four blocks from the river valley, where funiculars and a variety of walking and bicycling routes allow members of the University of Alberta community to enjoy plenty of open space only steps from this bustling campus.

The community connecting hub Enterprise Square promotes collaboration, learning, and research. Recent building improvements enable numerous university support areas to operate and collaborate under one roof in a way they haven’t before, fostering interaction and meeting needs.
