University of Alberta Summary
Founded in 1908, the University of Alberta is a public university. About 80% of the university’s students are undergraduates, and it is situated in the Canadian province of Alberta. The university has five campuses, including the flagship North Campus, which spans around 50 city blocks and is located on one of the four campuses located in Edmonton. The Augustana Campus, the university’s fifth location, is in the small town of Camrose, about an hour’s drive from Edmonton. The smaller Augustana Campus, which emphasizes liberal arts and sciences, is home to about 1,000 students.
The institution provides courses in a variety of subject areas, including engineering, business, the arts, and medicine. With the exception of the university’s Campus Saint-Jean, where French is the dominant language, English is the language of instruction. The University of Alberta has a student body that is more than 20% international, and their tuition rates are higher.
Fall and winter terms, as well as shorter, elective spring and summer terms, make up the school’s academic year. Undergraduate and graduate students can find university housing downtown Edmonton and on the Augustana campus. Major research organizations like the interdisciplinary National Institute for Nanotechnology are linked with the University of Alberta. Additionally, the university has more than 400 agreements in place for research, instruction, and exchange with colleges and other institutions throughout the globe, including the University of Western Australia and the University of Munich in Germany.
