About University of Calgary

The University of Calgary is a public research university located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was established in 1966 and is adjacent to the Rocky Mountains.

A total of 30,000 students are drawn there, of whom 25,000 are undergraduates, 6,000 are graduates, and 500 are postdoctoral fellows.

Around 3,000 of its students are international and come from about 125 different nations.

Each year, the university sends more than 1,100 students to more than 80 different countries through its study abroad program. Partnerships and collaboration agreements with universities in 140 different countries enable this.

The university maintains a campus in Doha, Qatar, in addition to its primary location in Canada, which became operational in 2007. Over 50% of the university’s academic members possess degrees from institutions abroad, totaling close to 1,823 across all of its faculties.

Additionally, 50 research institutes and centers are run by the institution.

It has a research revenue of $325 million and an endowment that is estimated to be worth $790 million.

The university colours are red, gold and black. Its mascot is a Tyrannosaurus Rex (named ‘Rex O’Saurus) and its sports teams go by the name of Calgary Dinos.

Over 162,000 graduates are part of its network. The astronaut Robert Thirsk, who holds the Canadian record for the longest space journey and most time spent in orbit, and the former Canadian prime leader Stephen Harper are two among them.

Bermuda Shorts Day (BSD), an annual celebration in April that commemorates the end of semesters, is one of the university’s customs. Students participate in a sizable campus event that includes bands, barbecues, and beer gardens in addition to donning shorts on BSD.

Course Ranking

More than 250 programs are available through the 14 faculties at the University of Calgary. According to the Times Higher Education subject rankings for 2022, the Business and Economics course at the university is ranked between 301 and 400 among all business courses. Since last year, it has fallen in the rankings. According to THE, the Business and Economics course placed 251-300 in 2021.

The University of Calgary has kept its place in the rankings for engineering programs from the previous year. In both 2021 and 2022, it is ranked between 201-250. According to THE, the course’s ranking dropped a little in 2020, placing it in the 251-300 range. If we look at the University of Calgary’s Science course rankings, THE places the Life Science course between 301 and 400 in 2022. On the other side, the Times Higher Education subject rankings for 2022 place the Psychology programme between 126 and 150.
